The Virtus coach (“I apologize to everyone”) had been sent off at the end of the match against Barletta. He had made the card fly out of the referee’s hands and will return to the bench in the third-last match of the championship, at the end of April. Four shifts of stop also for deputy Tartaglia
The blow came from the Sports Judge after the crazy gesture of Roberto Taurino, coach of Virtus Francavilla, at the end of the Serie D group H match against Barletta. At the final whistle, the coach approached the referee and protested heatedly about some incidents that had occurred during the match. Gabriele Sciolti, competition director of the Lecce section, had drawn the red. But Taurino had sent the card flying with a violent slap. A reckless gesture cost him a maxi 12-match ban: the 1977 class will have to stay away from the bench for over three months. He will only be able to return for the third to last matchday of the championship scheduled for 19 April against FC Francavilla. Four shifts also for deputy Angelo Tartaglia.

Roberto Taurino was a player and captain of Virtus Francavilla. Born in Lecce, as a coach he also led Avellino to Serie C in 2022. After the episode, the coach admitted his responsibilities by apologizing to both the referee and the club: “I would like to express my most sincere apologies for what happened at the end of the match – we read in the note -. The gesture made towards the referee was the result of the tension of the moment and in no way reflects the values of respect, balance and fairness which I consider fundamental in sport. I accept all responsibility for what happened and I am committed to ensuring that similar incidents do not happen again.”
