Coach decision at VfB Stuttgart well liked

After the separation from Pellegrino Matarazzo, VfB Stuttgart apparently made a decision on the open question as a coach.

As the “picture” reported, interim coach Michael Wimmer will remain in office until the World Cup in November – possibly to give the bosses more time to look for a coach.

Under Wimmer, VfB Stuttgart recently celebrated two victories. In the Bundesliga, the Swabians prevailed 4-1 against VfL Bochum, in the second round of the DFB Cup they shot down Arminia Bielefeld 6-0.

Sports director Sven Mislintat already indicated during the week that Wimmer could become a longer interim solution: “We have a great relationship of trust and know what his strengths are. He’s playing on them right now. We have to recognize the performance principle. Why should I rule that out if we keep winning?”

Most recently, the clubless Dane Jess Thorup and Ajax Amsterdam coach Alfred Schreuder were traded as hot candidates. Mislintat declined to comment on the speculation.

“I would neither confirm the names at this point, nor is there a trend. It’s clear that Michi will be on the bench at the weekend,” said the 49-year-old with a view to the upcoming Bundesliga duel against Borussia Dortmund.

Is VfB Stuttgart waiting for Dino Toppmöller?

Dino Toppmöller, assistant to Julian Nagelsmann at FC Bayern, has also been linked to VfB in the past. According to “Bild”, the 41-year-old wants to stay with Munich and has rejected the Stuttgart team.

But Christian Falk reports in his podcast “Bavaria Insiders“that Toppmöller is considering leaving Bayern Munich next summer. After all, his contract only runs until 2024.

According to the “Bild” reporter, those responsible at VfB have already contacted Toppmöller through an intermediary. Negotiations are said to have not yet taken place.

It is also unclear whether Stuttgart wants to bridge a possible wait for Toppmöller with Wimmer.
