Coach contract ends: FC Augsburg plans further with Markus Weinzierl

2 wins to stay up?

Apparently, FC Augsburg is planning to have Markus Weinzierl as a coach beyond the current season. The extension of the expiring contract should only be a formality as soon as the Bundesliga stay is secured, as FCA Managing Director Stefan Reuter more than hinted at after the 1-0 draw at FC Bayern Munich on Saturday. “We don’t have to open the topic,” said Reuter about Weinzierl’s currently open future.

“Now we have to score the necessary points first and then we’ll sit down together,” announced Reuter. Both sides knew what they had in each other, the manager emphasized.

Weinzierl is the coach of FC Augsburg for the second time. The 47-year-old came in the closing stages of last season and managed to stay up. “You can tell that the team has developed,” said Reuter about Weinzierl’s work in recent weeks. With 32 points, FCA is in 14th place. Reuter assumes that two more wins will be enough to play in the Bundesliga next season (Zu Augsburg’s course of the season with the rest of the program).
