The asylum reception in Ter Apel will be completely full next night, but nobody has to sleep outside or move to elsewhere in the country at night. This is what the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) expects. It is true that dozens more people are being accommodated than the maximum number of 2000.
The central reception location in Ter Apel has been overcrowded for some time. Last week even asylum seekers threatened to have to sleep outside. In the end it was decided to accommodate the group in waiting areas in the registration center. Without a bed, but with a roof over your head. In addition, shelters could be offered in several places, such as in Zuidbroek, Heerenveen, Nijmegen and Sittard-Geleen.
Emergency shelters for asylum seekers will soon be added in Breda and Oss, according to the COA. Leiden also wants to free up reception places, and is therefore going to renovate the Haagse Schouwburg. That will be an asylum seekers’ center that will accommodate three to four hundred people from the end of this year, who can stay there for a longer period of time. COA is urgently looking for such places. Barneveld also wants to offer reception capacity.
