‘The way it is now, it really can’t go on’
The Hague – While the reception of asylum seekers is already at a standstill, the need for reception places will increase sharply in the coming six months. According to the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA), the capacity must increase from 42,000 places now to 51,000 places by January 1, 2023. “I understand that mayors say the limit has been reached,” says COA board chair Milo Schoenmaker. “Something has to change really quickly. The way it is now, it really can’t go on any longer. Now we have the chance to take all the unrest out of the shelter.”
