Residents of Dahliastraat in Beilen were awakened before half past six this morning by noise coming from one of the houses. They suspected that a CO2 detector was going off and alarmedly called 112. The fire brigade and a few police officers were standing in front of a closed door a little later at that address.
After ringing the bell several times, the firefighters grabbed a ladder and tried to get in through the upstairs window. Then they discovered that it was not a CO2 detector that was causing the noise at all, but the resident’s alarm clock. He had gone to work early, but after his departure the machine had gone off again, so loudly that half the street was awake by now.
Neighbors called the resident, who came home to turn off the alarm. Not much later, the street was completely quiet again.
