De Boer-Otten was part of the famous Drenthe supermarket family. The company started in 1925 with Evert de Boer’s grocery store in Hoogeveen. In the following decade, his brother Jan started a similar business in Coevorden. Jan’s four sons also started working in the company, including Willem† In the 1950s, Cornelia de Boer-Otten married Willem de Boer (who died in 2002).
