Co-driver of crash with sports car in Opmeer died week after accident

The co-driver of a sports car who crashed into a tree along Opmouderweg in Opmeer on Saturday evening, April 22, has died. The 29-year-old Rotterdammer was seriously injured and died in hospital on April 28.

The sports car crashed into two trees on Opmouderweg on Saturday evening, April 22. “The driver, a 24-year-old Opmeer, was slightly injured,” says a police spokesman. “He was transferred to hospital, but did not have to be admitted. The co-driver was in a lot worse shape. He eventually died.”

The spokesman says it was a single-vehicle accident, so no other vehicles were involved in the crash. “The investigation into the accident has not yet been completed. They have not yet reached a conclusion.”

There is no question of the use of alcohol or drugs, the spokesman said. Whether it was driven too fast is still under investigation. “Determining the speed is quite complicated, but the car is very broken.”

When the report of the investigation is completed, it is sent to the Public Prosecution Service. “It will be examined what the driver is charged with.”
