CNN: “Militaries deliberately shot Al Jazeera journalist” | Abroad

American-Palestinian Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh (51) is believed to have been killed by targeted bullets from the Israeli army. This is reported by the American channel CNN, which, among other things, examined video images and questioned eyewitnesses for a reconstruction of the facts.

Abu Akleh, 51, died earlier this month reporting an Israeli military raid on the occupied West Bank. An initial investigation by the Israeli police says it is not possible to determine who fired the bullet that killed Abu Akleh. Her death caused a lot of commotion and there are international calls for an extensive independent investigation.

According to the Israeli police, the bullet came from a Palestinian gunman or a stray bullet from an Israeli sniper. The Palestinian Prosecutor’s Office in the West Bank city of Ramallah later said preliminary results of an investigation show that Israeli soldiers killed Abu Akleh.

Shot deliberately

CNN reconstructed that Abu Akleh must have been shot from a distance of about 200 meters. An Israeli military vehicle was at that distance at the time. Palestinian militants were too far away to shoot her, according to the channel.

The Palestinian-American journalist stood with a group of reporters at the entrance of a refugee camp, wearing her distinctive blue PRESS protection vest. Eyewitnesses tell CNN that the group of journalists was deliberately shot at by the Israeli military.
