Club scene demonstrates against highway expansion.
Under the motto “Bass away the A100!”, Berlin clubs are mobilizing together with the environmental association BUND, the citizens’ initiative A100 as well as Fridays for Future and other groups against the planned extension of the Berlin city motorway A100.
On September 2nd, the protest rave will take place on Elsenbrücke and Markgrafendamm. Up to 20,000 participants are expected. The planned 17th construction phase, which is to lead from Treptower Park over the Spree through Friedrichshain to Storkower Straße in Lichtenberg, threatens five clubs and up to 21 cultural institutions.
During the demo, techno music will be played on six stages by the cultural institutions concerned. “We want to show that protest can be fun. After all, music is a thousand times more beautiful than engine noise,” says Briti Beneke, spokeswoman for the A100 citizens’ initiative.
