Clubs compensate damage at OJC Rosmalen after grim match

The day after the disturbances at football club OJC Rosmalen, there is mainly one of making up the damage. The club hosted the final match for promotion to the premier league on Saturday. But things went wrong between VV Nieuwenhoorn from Hellevoetsluis and WHC from Wezep.

The amateur clubs took hundreds of supporters for the game, a police spokesman said. There would have been fans of Ajax and Feyenoord among them, who did not come for football.

Spectators held onto rocks and posts and the atmosphere was grim. Fireworks were set off, billboards were broken and a toilet was also destroyed.

“The clubs and the KNVB have said that we have to include the damage and then it will be arranged,” said OJC chairman Piet van der Plas. That’s the end of it for him.

According to Van der Plas, there was no fighting. He says that board members of the non-Brabant clubs tried to calm their own supporters. Police and security officers also intervened, but no one was arrested. In the end, VV Nieuwenhoorn won the decisive penalty series and thus promoted to the main division.
