Club suspends two young players after racism scandal

Two U19 professionals are said to have made racist comments about a player several times. The club is now drawing conclusions.

RB Leipzig suspended two young players on Thursday for repeated racist comments. When asked by “Bild”, the club said: “RB Leipzig has released two players from the U19 squad with immediate effect. The two have demonstrably made racist comments about fellow players and thus behaved in a highly unsportsmanlike and unacceptable manner.”

After the incidents became known, “the athletic management immediately informed them of the exemption,” it said. Neither should be allowed to play any more games for the club.

According to the report, the two players are said to have ridiculed defender El Chadaille Bitshiabu this week. The professional moved from Paris Saint-Germain to Leipzig in the summer for 16 million euros and is currently gaining match practice with the U19s. The “N-word” was said several times against Bitshiabu, and there were also inhumane comments that targeted the Frenchman’s skin color. Several U19 players are said to have reported the incidents.

U19 at anti-racism workshop

In its statement, Leipzig stated: “RB Leipzig firmly and firmly opposes racist, anti-constitutional and xenophobic efforts and other discriminatory or inhumane behavior and is particularly committed to the principle of fair play, the fight against racism and xenophobia and the support of the sport and society Integration of foreign young people is an obligation. The behavior described was and is neither accepted nor tolerated.”

The crazy thing about it: The U19 selection is said to have only taken part in an anti-racism workshop this week.
