In order to strengthen the offensive for the relegation project, FC Schalke 04 is investing millions in Sebastian Polter from VfL Bochum. A club icon is not very enthusiastic about the deal.
Probably no other player had such a large part in the resurgence of FC Schalke 04 as striker Simon Terodde.
The native of Bocholt scored 30 goals in the lower house and helped the royal blues back into the Bundesliga.
Since the now 34-year-old has the unpleasant reputation of only being able to deliver in the second division, Terodde is now under special observation at Schalke.
FC Schalke 04 invests millions in Sebastian Polter
In order not to be too dependent on their goalscorer, the Revierklub preferred to play it safe and provided Terodde with a new partner in Sebastian Polter. Or, depending on your point of view, put a new competitor in front of you.
Polter, who switched from VfL Bochum to Schalke for around 1.5 million euros, had led the Revier neighbors to stay in the league with ten goals last season.
In terms of player type, however, the bulky 31-year-old is very similar to Terodde. Against this background, many a Schalke player would obviously have expected a different type of attacker to complement the squad. This includes club legend Klaus Fischer.
FC Schalke 04 “urgently needs suppliers”
“I was surprised,” admitted the 72-year-old in an interview with “WAZAfter all, Terodde and Polter are “roughly the same types of players”.
Fischer sees a risk in this constellation. “They are penalty area forwards, not counter-attackers. They urgently need suppliers,” warned the former international.
Nevertheless, he does not want to stamp the newcomer early. “I’m really excited – the club must have thought something about it,” Fischer said.
