Club Brugge reacts with a great victory
Club Brugge bounces back over Anderlecht to third place in the standings, following number two Antwerp and nine points behind leader Union. After more than 20 minutes of play, Charles De Ketelaere served up team mate Eduard Sobol with the 1-0 on a silver platter, but Sobol couldn’t get past Bingourou Kamara.
Charleroi offered good resistance and also proved dangerous on a few occasions. It still fell behind when Mats Rits completed the assist of the advancing Dennis Odoi nicely. In the second half, Bruggeling Andreas Skov Olsen missed the goal after a few minutes after a cross-over bang from a sharp angle. The same Skov Olsen served Rits just before the hour, who converted a nicely drawn-out attack into a double lead with his second goal of the evening.
Youssouph Badji, mercenary from Club Brugge, immediately got a dot of an opportunity when he had just come in for the Carolo’s, but his shot went wide. Fifteen minutes before the end, Simon Mignolet first prevented the connecting goal of that other substitute Jackson Tchatchoua with a leg sweep and Kamara stood on the counterpunch on a new attempt by Skov Olsen.
The latter refused to score 3-0 in the final phase and then another good Mignolet was needed face to face with Tchatchoua and Adem Zorgane narrowly missed the equalizer. Bruges substitute Cisse Sandra found a Charleroi player on the goal line, which meant that the third goal was definitely not scored.
Earlier in the day, Racing Genk won 2-0 against a weak Standard in its own Cegeka Arena and league-leader Union Sint-Gillis lost 0-1 to Sint-Truiden after a late penalty miss by Dante Vanzeir. Later on Sunday it is still up to the final player, Beerschot and KV Kortrijk, to play on the Kiel in the closing of the match day.
