Club América confirms imminent switch from right back Sánchez to Ajax | NOW

Ajax has almost got Club América right back Jorge Sánchez. The Mexican club confirms that an agreement has been reached on the transfer of Sánchez, who will travel to Amsterdam on Sunday to complete the final formalities.

With the 24-year-old Sánchez, for which Ajax pays about 5 million euros, the team from Amsterdam has received the successor of Noussair Mazraoui who left for Bayern Munich. In the first games of the current season, Alfred Schreuder chose Devyne Rensch as right back.

Besides Rensch, Schreuder had hardly any options on the right back position. Sean Klaiber was the only real right back in the selection. In the preparation, Erik ten Hag’s successor therefore tested midfielder Kian Fitz-Jim in that position.

Sánchez is a 25-time international from Mexico who made his debut at the highest level for Santos Laguna in his home country. Since 2018 he played at Club América. The switch to Ajax will be Sánchez’s first foreign adventure.

After Steven Bergwijn, Owen Wijndal, Calvin Bassey, Brian Brobbey, Francisco Conceição and Lorenzo Lucca, Sánchez is the seventh acquisition of Ajax. The reigning national champion started the Eredivisie season on Saturday with a 2-3 win over Fortuna Sittard.
