• A cloud handheld from Logitech and Tencent will be available before the end of the year
• For this purpose, a cooperation with Microsoft and NVIDIA was launched
• Details about the design and launch date are not yet known
The Nintendo Switch has enjoyed uninterrupted popularity since its market launch in March 2017 – according to Statista, more than 600,000 switch consoles were sold in Corona December 2020 alone and in the last quarter (end of June 2022) Nintendo’s gaming division was able to generate revenues of generate around 300 billion yen. Valve’s Steam Deck is similarly successful, and according to estimates by t3n, around two months after the start of deliveries in February of this year, at least twelve million copies have already been sold. At the beginning of August, Logitech and Tencent announced in a joint press release that they would also be launching their own handheld console this year.
“Logitech G and Tencent share a common vision for the future of gaming”
According to the press release, “Logitech G and Tencent Games share a common vision for the future of gaming.” The new console is a cloud handheld, which is why the hardware provided by Logitech will probably be rather simple. The Golem magazine assumes that the console itself will therefore be cheaper than the Switch (around 200 euros) or the Steam Deck (around 450 euros) and that owners will have to purchase a monthly subscription for the cloud-based game services in addition to the hardware. Logitech and Tencent are working with Microsoft and NVIDIA on the software. Whether this means that the new console will support Xbox cloud gaming and GeForce NOW is not yet known. The monthly costs for both subscriptions are around ten euros.
Logitech and Tencent “can’t wait” to unveil the handheld
“Logitech G’s leadership in PC and console gaming makes it an ideal partner to… […] To provide a better gaming experience to players around the world. Today marks the beginning of a new opportunity for our companies to further push the boundaries of gaming devices,” said Daniel Wu, manager at Tencent Games Smart Solution Innovation Lab, in the press release. “We can’t wait to announce everyone show what we’ve been working on,” adds Ujesh Desai, manager at Logitech G.
Details on the design or even pictures of the announced cloud handheld have not yet been published. If you can’t wait any longer, you can sign up for a newsletter about the new product on the official website and be informed immediately about new developments – for example when the handheld will be launched. This is not known to the public as of mid-August. However, it’s likely that Logitech and Tencent will want to launch before Christmas so they can get involved in year-end business.
