Clothing bank Hoogeveen still looking for new premises

There is still no solution for the housing problems of the Clothing Bank Hoogeveen, formerly the Clothing Bank Drenthe. In September, Johan Veenstra sounded the alarm. The roof of the building at Fabrieksweg 2 bends and leaks in many places. The building is also not heated.

“I have now looked at a property,” says Veenstra. “But that was too small and the square meter price too high. And we need a lot of space. For example, in the winter you are collecting summer clothes and they need to be stored. In addition, you need space to sort the clothes that come in and then you also need a decent space for the shopping area. Because it concerns men’s, women’s and children’s clothing.”

New space

Veenstra calls on people who have an empty building around the center and who want to rent it out to the Clothing Bank Hoogeveen to contact him via the clothing bank’s telephone number. As long as there is no new space, Fabrieksweg 2 will continue to function as a clothing bank. “You can’t just stop for a while and start over somewhere else. Moving is not the problem, but if we stop temporarily, you will also lose the volunteers and you will not find them again just like that.”

Veenstra also points out that the name of the clothing bank has changed. “When we started, we were the only ones in Drenthe. Hence then Clothing Bank Drenthe. But nowadays there are many more clothing banks. That is why I changed the name to Clothing Bank Hoogeveen and the website can now also be found under that name at clothing bankhoogeveen.nl.”

Johan Veenstra is for people who know how to reach a possibly suitable building via 06-48570851.
