Closing falls for Zwevezele and Menen
Zwevezele had started the season with a lot of ambition, but chairman Paul Degroote was forced to pull the plug from the team due to the increasing demands of the football association. Zwevezele will still be active with a team in the second provincial. Menen will also stop after this season. The news hit like a bomb at the end of February, because the team had been around for 116 years. But the financial situation was no longer sustainable : fewer sponsors and spectators, and therefore less income, while operating costs continued to rise.
In their last game, Zwevezele and Menen draw 1-1. After five minutes, the visitors take the lead via Demets. Zwevezele then has to keep beating until the eightieth minute, so as not to say goodbye with a defeat. Timmerman then takes care of the 1-1, on the advice of Stan Braem, the top scorer who is currently testing at Cercle Brugge.
