Climatologist van Ypersele is again a candidate to lead the IPCC climate panel | Interior

Climatologist Jean-Pascal van Ypersele is again a candidate for the top job at the IPCC. It is not the first time he has applied for the position. In 2015 he also competed for the presidency, but then he did not make it. The South Korean Hoesung Lee then became chairman of the IPCC.

Van Ypersele has been active at the IPCC since 1995. He served as Vice President from 2008 to 2015. The candidacy of the Belgian climatologist who teaches at UCL has the support of the federal government. Van Ypersele himself is “very honored” with the confidence of the government.

The climatologist wants the IPCC to be the “voice of the climate” and “inform all policy makers with the best scientific information”. The election for the international top position will take place in July.
