Climate stickers want to bring Berlin “to a standstill” from April 24th

The climate protection group Last Generation is planning massive street blockades and other protest actions in Berlin in the last week of April and well into May.

“From Monday, April 24th, we will peacefully bring Berlin to a standstill with street blockades,” says the website. A meeting was planned beforehand on Sunday, April 23, from 3:00 p.m. at the Brandenburg Gate.

The activists, who keep sticking to the streets, are demanding a speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour on the German autobahns and a permanent 9-euro ticket for buses and trains as immediate measures against the impending “climate collapse”.

The Last Generation website states that in the weeks of April 24-28 and May 1-5 they will try to make as many roadblocks as possible. There are also campaigns on April 20th and 21st, but with a focus on downtown Berlin. Then it will “probably not come to a complete city standstill”.

In the strategy for spring 2023, the group writes: “We are the 99 percent who are supposed to be used to enrich a small part of people and nature. But we are nature fighting back, the people who are tired of kneeling before profit and the billionaires, the lobbyists and parties who sell their values for fear of “losing majorities”.

For months there have been massive blockades on busy roads in the capital. In order to mitigate the consequences of such blockades for road users, the Berlin police have also been using undercover investigators for several weeks. This has already prevented multiple sticking actions.
