In 2020 there was already a majority in the House of Representatives who asked the cabinet about an investigation into the establishment of minimum prices (about 35 euros) because it was possible to fly around for dump prices.
The then minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen (VVD) said that the plan goes against European rules. After all, airlines have their own pricing policy. Several airlines previously responded negatively to the plan. They believe that it is not up to the government to set minimum prices in the free market economy.
Jetten acknowledges that there are legal snags to the plan, but nevertheless thinks it is worth discussing in a European context. Reuters news agency reported in February this year that there is a good chance that the European Commission will turn against the Austrian plan.
