Climate demonstrators try to disrupt the start of the marathon in Berlin, police immediately intervene | Environment

Two minutes before the start, eight people suddenly walked up the boulevard at the Brandenburg Gate on either side. They only managed to splash some orange paint on the track. Officers were quick to arrest them.

The posters they tried to display made it clear that they were working for the climate cause. The marathon, in which 48,000 runners are participating, started without any problems.

The climate movement Letzte Generation had announced in advance that it wanted to disrupt the marathon in protest. The group has been blocking roads in the German capital for some time now.

A week ago, activists smeared the Brandenburg Gate with orange paint. According to the city, the cleaning will cost at least 35,000 euros.
