Climate activists spray luxury shops on Sylt with paint

Activists of the climate protection group Last Generation sprayed paint on a clothing store for luxury fashion and a jeweler on Sylt on Friday. The police are still on duty, said a spokeswoman for the responsible police department in Flensburg at noon.

According to a dpa reporter, several activists initially used fire extinguishers to paint the shop fronts in Kampen orange. Then they placed themselves with posters in front of the shops. “For whom are you doing politics, Chancellor Scholz?” It said on one. When the police arrived, four people were glued to the ground. Many holidaymakers and passers-by gathered around the event.

The last generation referred to the campaign in a Twitter post. Demonstrators from the group had already sprayed paint on a private plane on Sylt in June and damaged a golf course.

The last generation had announced targeted protest actions against rich people. The group justified the climate catastrophe “primarily by the rich” and wanted to draw attention to that. (dpa)
