Along the Hoeverweg from Alkmaar to the Egmonden is a big fire broke out last night in the goat shed of a care farm. An employee would have noticed the fire and called 112.

The fire brigade was able to prevent the fire from spreading to, for example, the apartments on the site, but the large barn was completely destroyed.

People with intellectual disabilities live on the care farm. They work in and around the goat shed. The products are produced locally and sold worldwide. Goat farming is a concept anyway. And lately the farm has been in the news because they have a forced closure hangs above the head.

The fire continues employees on Facebook described as “very sad news”. “Due to the terrible fire on our beautiful working farm last night, we are closed for daytime activities until further notice, the dairy / cheese dairy and farm shop are also closed.”

At the scene of the fire, NH reporter Maaike Polder notes the dismay of both staff and clients. “They are very sad. You can really read that from the faces. Employees and residents hug each other.”

The 250 goats were saved by the fire brigade. “Fortunately they are safe.” A few animals are bleating on the other side of the burnt down stable.
