“The Future of Shopping”
Ochama is an omnichannel retailer whose goal is to revolutionize the future of shopping. Online orders can be picked up at Ochama pickup shops or delivered directly to your home, which the company wants to make the shopping experience for its customers as easy, convenient and fast as possible. In addition to groceries, the range also includes household appliances, home accessories, electronics, fashion and more, similar to other supermarkets. What you order online can be picked up the next day at a pick-up station using a QR code. “By using high-tech robots, automation solutions and advanced supply chain management, we have not only improved efficiency through standardization, but also reduced labor and operating costs, which benefits our customers,” the company explains on its website.
Ochama takes off in the German market
Now the company also wants to conquer the German market. In the Netherlands, where the company was founded, the pick-up stations are already part of everyday life in many cities, as Stern explains. According to Utopia, there are already 120 branches in Europe. 26 locations were only recently opened, including nine in Germany. The nine German branches are located in Aachen, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Essen and Gelsenkirchen. At the moment, however, the range of the shop does not yet have German and therefore regional products. The reason for this is that the German pick-up stations are probably mainly supplied from a warehouse in the Netherlands. In addition, the web shop is only available in English and Dutch. It remains to be seen whether German products and a German web shop will follow in the future.
This is how purchasing works
The desired products can be ordered via an app or the online shop. These are ready for collection after one day. As soon as the ordered products are available, customers can drive to the selected pick-up station and collect their purchase. On site you have to scan a QR code to get the right delivery. One advantage is that collection is also possible outside of typical opening hours, which should make the shopping experience even more flexible.
