KV Kortrijk started with Wasinski, Mighten and Sissako in the starting line-up and also with the best intentions. In the first five minutes the home team already had two chances to score, but both El Idrissy and Mighten missed from close range. Scoring has been one of the weaknesses all season. Still in the first half, Henen bumped into Hubert. RWDM offered nothing in return. KVK deserved a lead.
The home team also started most dangerously in the second half with Genen’s shot outside the large rectangle after five minutes. Hubert went well. On the other side, RWDM threatened five minutes later after a corner kick via Reine-Adelaide.
De Boeck brought Kadri, Oyo and later also Davies and was clearly going for the win. KVK actually had the better of the game, but except for a shot from Kadri halfway through the second half, Hubert did not have to intervene.
Oyo got the best chance of the entire match fifteen minutes before the final whistle. Kadri cut through the middle and isolated Oyo on the right but he shot wide. So still 0-0.
RWDM waited and didn’t need more than one real counter-attack to do what KVK could not: score. The ball came to Reine-Adelaide from the right, who kicked it hard in the middle: 0-1.
Vandenberghe still had to intervene on an attempt by Gueye. On the other side, Davies headed the deserved equalizer in minute 90, falling wide. If you don’t score, you can’t win. This is how the cup adventure for KVK ends in the eighth finals.
