Clemens waves World Cup duel with 18-year-old Greaves

Germany’s best darts professional Gabriel Clemens has his first duel at the World Cup in London against the winner of the game between the only 18-year-old Beau Greaves from England and the Irishman William O’Connor.

This resulted in the draw for the season highlight (December 15 to January 3) on Monday evening. O’Connor, numbered 37 in the world, is favored in the first round match against the winner of the Women’s World Cup.

39-year-old Clemens (Saarwellingen), who is at the Alexandra Palace for the fifth time in a row, only has to intervene in round two as 25th in the seed and world rankings. Potential opponent Greaves is one of three women in the 96-man field, alongside Fallon Sherrock and Lisa Ashton (also from England). In round three, Clemens beckons a match against last year’s semi-finalist James Wade (England).

Martin Schindler (26/Strausberg), who was also seeded, meets Martin Lukeman (England) or Nobuhiro Yamamoto from Japan in his fourth appearance at the World Cup. Last year’s finalist Michael Smith (England) could wait in the third round. The unseeded Florian Hempel (32 / Cologne) has to compete against the Englishman Keegan Brown in the first round of his second World Cup participation.

The top 32 in the world rankings only enter the second round of the World Cup. In round one, the 32 international qualifiers play against the top 32 of the ProTour.

The former German darts hope Max Hopp (Idstein) failed on Monday at the last qualifying tournament for the World Cup.

TV channel Sport1 broadcasts 165 hours live from the season highlight, and DAZN also shows the World Cup live.
