Clemens and Schindler reach the quarterfinals of the World Team Championship

The darts duo Gabriel Clemens and Martin Schindler has reached the quarter finals at the Team World Championships in Frankfurt/Main. The Germans prevailed in the round of 16 in a hard-fought duel with 8: 6 against Poland and on Sunday (1 p.m. / DAZN) they meet the favored English with world champion Michael Smith and fifth in the world rankings Rob Cross.

A duel at eye level quickly developed in the atmospheric Frankfurt ice rink. The Poles Krzysztof Ratajski and Krzysztof Kciuk, who broke the double record in the group stage with an average of 118.10 points, demanded everything from World Cup semi-finalists Clemens and Schindler. In the nerve-wracking final phase, Clemens converted the fourth match dart on double 1.

Clemens and Schindler are among the secret favorites in the tournament, which is worth a total of 450,000 pounds (around 526,000 euros). In the preliminary round, the two best pros from Germany had not lost a single leg in their victories over Hong Kong (4-0) and Japan (4-0).

The favorites England, Scotland, Wales and defending champion Australia had already reached the quarter-finals ahead of the Germans. In addition, Belgium eliminated the Netherlands, who have to compete without Michael van Gerwen. The eight remaining sides also include two surprises in France and Sweden.

The quarterfinals, semifinals and final will be played on Sunday.
