Cleaning habits: what the pandemic left behind

Bleach, disinfectants, cleaners, liquid or gel alcohol, are cleaning items that have always been part of the family routine, but that became even more essential and unavoidable with the arrival of the Covid 19 Pandemic.

The isolation in our homes and the fear that the virus will enter our homes produced a noticeable change in habits. It was from there that the cleaning began to be carried out by all the members of the familyaided by advice on how to leave surfaces free of the virus that was repeated by all existing media.

The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec), through the first National Survey of Time Use (ENUT 2021), reported that women have more participation in the total productive work of the population because, although they occupy less paid positions than men, they are the ones who most assume domestic and care tasks: Activities in the home are carried out by 91.6% of women, compared to a surprising number in the case of 73.9% of men after the confinement caused by the pandemic now admit to doing cleaning tasks at home. Although it does not reach the fair parity that the task should have, it is still an auspicious figure.

Based on these data, the GZ Consumption Behavior Observatoryconducted a survey, answered by men and women in similar proportion, that inquired about the behavior of citizens regarding cleaning habits at home and in everyday life.

IBERIA 2022

First, he asked himself: “As a result of the pandemic, how much have cleaning habits changed in your home with respect to contact with objects and surfaces, germs, and viruses?” A) Yes, 8 out of 10 people stated that their cleaning habits had changed: a lot (44.4%) or somewhat (33.2%). For 19.9%, habits changed little or not at all.

Taking into account the age of those who responded, it appears that 65% of young people under 29 years of age changed their cleaning habits, but the percentage rises to 81% in adults over 65 years of age. Also in the option “I had few changes”, it was chosen by 3 out of 10 young people and by 1 out of 10 older adults.

“From Iberia, in addition to simplifying and speeding up domestic taskswe seek to raise awareness of the importance of having healthy habits. Cleaning systems, through mops such as the turbo matic, eliminate contact with the bacteria that are on the floor cloths and preserve the health of the skin of the hands”, he highlighted. Julián Casamayor, spokesperson for Iberia Industries.

Second, it delved into the tools used to perform the cleaning. Thus, he asked himself: “And in relation to this, do you consider the possibility of replacing the classic use of floor cloths with the use of a mop to clean the floors a healthy habit?” Over there, 45.9% considered that they would replace the product, 36.5% that they would not, and 16.6% did not choose any option. At this point it is important to highlight that 5 out of 10 respondents considered the possibility of using the mop as a method of cleaning their floors a healthy habit.

“According to the survey A large number of people consider mopping as a method of floor cleaning a healthy habit. This number is important, since the use of the floor cloth is more traditional, and it is a deeply rooted habit. At Iberia we saw how this product multiplied its adherence during the two years of the pandemic. Not touching the floor cloth with your hands, protecting them from chemical products and possible viruses, is the advantage most valued by our clients”, concluded Casamayor.
