In the camp of the alternative rock band Placebo, quite a few instruments have accumulated over the years. Now it’s time to declutter, determined Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal have announced they will be selling over 100 models from their collection through Reverb.
Alongside “sought-after vintage pieces, there will also be some more accessible specimens” that fans might find interesting. Guitars, basses, effects pedals, amplifiers and more of the “most interesting and creative devices for studio recording and live performance” were announced, which Placebo has also used themselves.
The official placebo @reverb shop is launching soon, featuring over 100 pieces of music gear used by the band throughout their career.

Instruments for “real collectors and enthusiasts”
It’s “time to get rid of some gear,” Olsdal said. Although the two have to part with equipment that they have grown fond of, he is optimistic: “Since we knew that Reverb was already being used by other established artists, we had a good feeling that the devices would go to real collectors and enthusiasts.” he alludes to Green Day, Marc Hoppus from Blink-182 and Peter Frampton, among others, who sold their instruments via the online marketplace.
The band also used the equipment themselves
A preview of some of the pieces waiting for their new owners from Wednesday (April 27) have already been shown: Among other things, there would be the Takamine acoustic guitar, which is on the Placebo hit single “Every You, Every Me” and auf the album WITHOUT YOU I’M NOTHING was used. Some Taylor guitars used in live acoustic sessions between 2000 and 2012 will also be sold. But not only guitar fans get their money’s worth: A Korg 800DV synthesizer, which can be heard on “Pure Morning”, is also included. Also a Guild Hollow body bass that Olsdal played at an MTV unplugged session.
“It is time”
“We’ve had a great time with this gear, but now it’s time for each piece to move on,” says Placebo. If you are interested in one of the pieces, you can on the Reverb website Sign up to be notified when the sale starts.
With NEVER LET ME GO, the band’s current and eighth album was released on March 25th. The new record will be on tour in Germany this fall. If you can’t wait until then, you have the opportunity to see the two at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park in June.
