Classic cider made a comeback

In addition to Hartwall’s Upcider and Olvin Fizz, Golden Cap is probably a familiar brand to everyone who has ever drunk cider, since it is the oldest cider brand in Finland. Now the classic cider is back on store shelves.

The first Golden Caps went on sale in 1962. In 1993, Sinebrychoff brought Golden Cap ciders to restaurant taps as the first cider in Finland.

In recent years, Finns’ cider taste seems to have changed in a drier direction. Among Sinebrychoff’s ciders, for example, Crowmoor has been a popular brand. Real ciders, which are made without additives from fresh apple juice by fermentation, have also received attention, and from which the Suomalainen Aidon Siiderin Seura annually selects the best cider in Finland.

Golden Caps represent a sweeter trend in ciders. The brand’s last new flavor was launched in the spring of 2018. Since then, no new products have been seen until this fall. In 2021–2022, only two old flavors were sold under the brand.

– There have been constant requests from consumers for a return. Several different flavors have been requested for the stores, says Sinebrychoff’s category marketing manager Juhani Jalkanen.

– This has been a pleasure to see, and we have listened carefully to the feedback.

The new Golden Cap ciders are packed in 0.33 liter cans, and the flavors are Green apple light and Strawberry light. According to Jalkanen, the choice was easy, because the brand is known for its green apple, while strawberry has been the most desired flavor. Ciders are sugar-free.

At Sinebrychoff, we believe in the potential of the classic, which is also indicated by the consumer research conducted by the brewery.

– According to our understanding, many people associate a certain nostalgia with the Golden Cap. Golden Cap lovers expect lightness and freshness from cider flavors.
