Controversy after the incidents during the Copa del Rey semi-final match. A witness: “We called the police, they replied that they had no officers”
Clashes, fear and a serious Atletico Madrid fan in hospital. It was a scary evening in Bilbao, before the return match of the Copa del Rey semi-finals which was then won by Athletic Club. There were violent incidents between the fans of the two clubs. According to Radio Marca, around sixty people attacked several Atlético fans who were in a bar in Bilbao. One was taken to hospital after suffering a head injury.

According to a witness it was a planned attack: “Everything was badly organised. Bilbao reported that there were no meeting or parking points for the buses, that they had to leave the members of the supporters’ clubs on the street and that everyone would walked around the city as they could… We knew it was so. a mousetrap.”

The wife of an Atletico fan said that “a group decided to enter a restaurant. They were eating and after two hours of being there, another wild group entered. They injured a boy in the face, the one hospitalized in hospital. They hit another in the face with a bottle. They were very scared because they called the police and they replied that they couldn’t come because they had no officers. They beat a girl who had gone out to smoke.”
Chaos erupted when the Athletic bus arrived in San Mamés. according to the Efe agency, one person was arrested and several officers were injured, hit by objects thrown as the teams entered the field.
