Civil Protection activates the INUNCAT alert due to rain on the coast of Catalonia

Civil Protection of the Generalitat The special plan alert was activated this Thursday of emergencies due to flooding in Catalonia (INUNCAT) due to the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (SMC) forecast of rains that could be intense this Friday.

In the morning the showers will concentrate in Terres de l’Ebre, and will leave moving towards the coastline and pre-coastline of Tarragona and Barcelona until it hits late in the afternoon, especially in the regions of the provinces of Barcelona and Girona.

According to the SMC, rains that can exceed 40 liters per square meter in 30 minutes in the Terres de l’Ebre regions in the morning, at noon and in the afternoon in the coastal and pre-coastal regions of Tarragona and Barcelona and, beginning at night, especially in the coastal and pre-coastal regions of Girona and northern Barcelona.

The regions will be able to exceed the 100 liters per square meter in 24 hours and the showers may be accompanied by storms and strong gusts of wind.

The authorities have asked for great caution in outdoor activities and mobility in the affected regions this Friday, coinciding with the start of the weekend. In addition, they have also especially remembered not to cross flood-prone areas either on foot or by vehicle.
