City of Antwerp will vaccinate children in the Zoo: “Walking in the Butterfly Garden is more pleasant than waiting fifteen minutes for a chair” | Antwerp

AntwerpAfter the Christmas holidays, the city of Antwerp will vaccinate 5 to 11-year-olds in the Zoo. The location was chosen so that the children can walk around for fifteen minutes after the injection in a cordoned off part of the park. “The Zoo as a location is not a way to lure them, but to make it as pleasant as possible,” says the cabinet of aldermen of health care Els van Doesburg (N-VA).

Last week, politicians gave the green light for the vaccination of children between the ages of 5 and 11. The City of Antwerp chose the Zoo as the location for this. “We adapt the vaccinations to the age groups, for example, radio Minerva was on when it was the turn of the elderly and we used Tommorowland as a theme for the young people. We try to make the shot as pleasant as possible for the little ones by giving them an experience in the Zoo,” says Michael Lescroart, spokesman for ships Van Doesburg.

Projected animals provide distraction in the closed cubicles where the children come with their parents. After the vaccination, the children are allowed to walk around in the Butterfly Garden and with the monkeys. “That is more pleasant for them than waiting fifteen minutes for a seat.” Lescroart emphasizes that the Zoo as a location is not a way to attract children. “We insist that parents are well informed and make a conscious choice about vaccination. With the Zoo we only want to make the experience of the children as pleasant as possible,” he says.

The proposal will be approved today by the Council of Aldermen. The children’s vaccinations will start in mid-January and will always take place during the weekend.
