City farm De Balijhoeve is open again: you can expect this

City Farm De Balijhoeve has reopened after a long renovation. The guinea pig house is gone and the rabbits have moved. In addition, the building has been given a metamorphosis.

Due to the renovation, the petting zoo was temporarily closed. Some farm animals have left or moved. A catering area has been built with a cozy terrace. Only the owner has yet to be found.

New calves and a pony

Wendy Leenvaart of De Baijhoeve explains: “The range of animals has not changed. However, some animals have made way for a few new animals. We have found a place for our two cows at a farm in the area. Instead, two calves have come to live on our farm. Unfortunately we had to put Pony Fleur to sleep because it was no longer possible due to her old age. We got pony Lola in return.”

The guinea pig house, which was normally in the main building, is no longer there. “It turned out that the guinea pigs became stressed from the crowds and the lifting. We have decided to give the guinea pigs a separate place. They can no longer be lifted or petted. On the other hand, we now have an enclosure with large long-eared rabbits. Children can sit among the animals and possibly pet them.”

Greater stay

The outdoor areas near the stables have been extended. “For example, the Icelandic horses have more space when they are in the stable and want to go outside,” explains Wendy. “We have added meeting rooms and offices in the main building. For example, the employees of Staatsbosbeheer also have a nice workplace. There is also a small shop where people can get fresh eggs and something to eat or drink. We hope that a party will soon take over the catering part. Then everyone can go there for something delicious.”
