City approves expansion of Eintracht Stadium

Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – The city of Frankfurt has approved the expansion of Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt’s football stadium. Sports department head Mike Josef (SPD) had symbolically handed over the building permit on the occasion of the game on Sunday against SC Freiburg (1: 2), the club announced.

The Deutsche Bank Park is to be expanded by 11,000 standing places to 60,000. “Construction will start in late autumn, then things really get going. I’m really happy for the city and for Eintracht Frankfurt,” said Josef.

“We fought for a few years to get standing room expansion,” said Eintracht board spokesman Axel Hellmann. “Back then, we fought to ensure that there was still standing room at all 18 years ago – when planning the stadium. Now we have achieved another major goal.”
