Den Bosch, Tilburg and Breda will jointly receive more than 56 million euros to invest in large-scale housing projects. This was announced by Minister Hugo de Jonge of Housing and Spatial Planning on Friday in a letter to the House of Representatives. The money is intended for the construction of attractive neighbourhoods, for example by investing in more greenery.
In total, seventeen large housing locations in the Netherlands can count on support from the government. That amounts to about 475 million euros for at least 240,000 new homes. In Brabant this concerns the following projects:
- Breda: CrossMark – ‘t Zoet (27 million euros)
- Den Bosch: Railway zone (19 million euros)
- Tilburg: Knowledge Quarter (10 million euros)
These amounts are not enough to pay for the entire projects. The government pays a maximum of half for each project.
The municipalities can therefore use the money to invest in more attractive neighbourhoods. For example, by creating more greenery and squares. But it can also be used to make the new houses more sustainable.
‘Attention to greenery and water’
In Den Bosch, the news was received with great enthusiasm. “A considerable amount”, says alderman Mike van der Geld. “It emphasizes that we are on the right track in the Bossche Spoorzone.” He also points to the importance of a pleasant living environment. “On the one hand, it is about building homes, but there must also be sufficient attention for greenery and water.”
Accessibility projects
Earlier today it was announced that extra money will also go to the accessibility of the three Brabant districts. For example, Breda can count on another 50 million euros, Den Bosch will receive 36 million and Tilburg 45 million euros.
