A scene from the TV series “Circeo”

The Italian production of TV series seems to be in excellent health; also testifies to the latest arrival among the streaming platforms, Paramount+who immediately invested in the creation of original fiction.

Circeo is a series that brings to mind an unprecedented episode of violence that shook Italy in the mid-1970s: the so-called “Circeo massacre”, when three offspring of Rome kidnapped and tortured two girls from the “borgata” for 36 hours and then abandoned them in the trunk of the car. Maria Rosaria Lopez died, while Donatella Colasanti managed to save herself and her wounded body became the emblem of a battle to change norms and perceptions of violence against women.

Greta Scarano: «For “Circeo” I was inspired by feminists»

In the six-episode series signed by Andrea Molaioli (and produced by Cattleya), the focus is on the stages of the process by bringing out the partnership between the lawyer Teresa Capogrossi (Greta Scarano) and the young Donatella (Ambrosia Caldarelli).

Thanks to research and historical accuracy – the series reconstructs the colors and context of the time – Circeo it is a well-written product, which goes straight to the point without getting lost in dull embroideries and enhancing the surrounding characters, such as the photographer Saverio, inspired by the real author of a shot that marked an era.
For those who love reconstructions of national crime news and know how to grasp the details of the narrative.
