Cillessen in conflict with Valencia about transfer to NEC, Branderhorst remains positive | Dutch football

Jasper Cillessen is in conflict with Valencia over the completion of his transfer to NEC. The Nijmegen club has informed Jürgen Locadia that he does not have to come.

NEC announced Cillessen’s presentation on Thursday morning, but then postponed it twice due to a technical formality in the completion of the transfer. Technical director Ted van Leeuwen gave more clarity about this this afternoon prior to the home match against FC Twente.

,,We were quick with Valencia,” Van Leeuwen told ESPN. ,,Which is remarkable, because I have never experienced that with Spaniards. There is a conflict between the player, agent and Valencia over the handling of the transfer. I don’t feel that justice is done to the player and agent.”

“Now it comes down to money. That is almost always the case, but well, if you agree things in advance and the agreements are changed again later, I can imagine that a party has bad feelings about that. It must have been yesterday when Cillessen had already been on the plane again.”

Branderhorst tries to stay positive

Mattijs Branderhorst (28) from Tiel kept today against FC Twente (0-1 by late goal Sem Steijn) still at NEC and tries to approach the arrival of Cillessen positively. ,,It was special how I was received here by the supporters. Since the home match against Ajax last season, the bond with the supporters has been good,” said Branderhorst. “After last week’s news, it is good to know that the fans support me. It has been a strange week, a roller coaster of emotions. The rumors have been going around here for a while that Jasper would come, but if he is really there then that would be a big bummer for me of course. Now the situation is that due to circumstances he has not signed yet and I am still on target. I just tried to focus on the game.”

,,The club has been very clear to me and that is good for me in this situation. I have to learn to deal with it. It sucks, but I’m not the kind of person who gets out of control. It took me a day to process it, but I also have to carry on. As long as Jasper hasn’t signed, I’ll just stand there. I’m trying to make the best of this situation. Jasper is a goalkeeper for the Dutch national team and I’ve wondered all my career what the difference is between me and keepers at that level. It’s the perfect benchmark for me now. I try to stay positive. Maybe I’ll learn a lot from it, but I’ll also keep my options open. If a good club comes along, I also have to see if the club wants to think along with me. If it fits the picture of me and my girlfriend, I’ll just stay here.”

Locadia is not coming to NEC

NEC will not strengthen with Jürgen Locadia. The club made him an offer a few months ago and had a hefty salary for him. He let NEC take a seat in the waiting room and the club is no longer served by that.

,,Locadia is not coming to NEC’, said Van Leeuwen. “We canceled him.”

NEC wants to add an extra striker to the roster this month, because that position with only Pedro Marques is thinly occupied. The club is also looking for a central defender and an winger, because trainer Rogier Meijer currently has little choice in those positions.
