Chest and back pain: the Lidl-Trek rider from Abruzzo did not recover from the downhill flight at Tre Valli Varesine on Tuesday
Nothing to do, as was feared Giulio Ciccone will not be able to be at the start of the Lombardia on Saturday 7 October, the last Monument of the year. The 28-year-old from Abruzzo of Lidl-Trek had crashed (retiring) from Tre Valli Varesine on Tuesday. He had no fractures – according to what emerged from the tests at the Varese hospital – but severe pain in his pelvis due to the blow. For him a severe bruise in the pelvic area and strong pain in the lumbar area. Lidl-Trek will replace him with the Spaniard Juanpe Lopez: the captain will be Bauke Mollema, the Dutchman who won the Lombardia in 2019.
the ciccone test

Yesterday Ciccone pedaled on the rollers, but the test was negative as Ciccone was unable to give intensity to the action. Giulio’s season, polka-dotted jersey of best climber at the 2023 Tour, ends here. With so much bitterness.
