Church defaced with slogans against asylum seekers: ‘Disrespectful and unacceptable’

Outside walls of the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Visitatiekerk in Budel are covered with slogans against asylum seekers, such as ‘Azc get rid of it’. The municipality filed a report and immediately had the texts removed in consultation with the pastor. The police are conducting an investigation, the municipality of Cranendonck reports on its site.

Mayor Roland van Kessel: “Beading the church with these slogans is disrespectful and unacceptable. Even though I understand that residents are fed up with the ongoing nuisance, that should never be a reason to do something like this.”

A number of residents of the asylum seekers’ center have ensured that this shelter has received negative media coverage several times. For example, the owners of the Jumbo in Maarheeze decided to stop their shop because of the nuisance and many thefts caused by those asylum seekers.

Items were also destroyed at a cemetery in the village. And the Dutch Railways decided, after a cry for help from the railway union VVMC, to let police officers ride along on the Eindhoven-Weert route because of threats in the trains. The bus has also stopped near the azc for months due to annoying and intimidating asylum seekers.

The municipality is calling on witnesses to the graffiti to report. Camera images are also welcome. People can also share these anonymously via Meld Misdaad Anoniem.
