According to recent reports, Christopher Nolan is in talks to direct the next two films in the James Bond series. However, these conversations are complicated by the ongoing Hollywood strikes by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA, as well as Nolan’s commitments to his last film, “Oppenheimer.”
However, the biggest problem for a clear commitment to Nolan as the new Bond director is the artistic freedom that would be expected from him. While he previously said that it would be “an incredible privilege” to direct a Bond film, working with such an established character comes with certain limitations. Especially since the producers around Barbara Broccoli are notorious for setting strong targets.
“The influence these films had on me is embarrassingly obvious in my filmography,” said Nolan as a guest on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “It would be an incredible privilege to have one [Bond-Film] close. But when you take on such a figure, you also have certain limitations.”
He continued: “It has to be the right moment in your creative life when you can express what you want to express and you can really delve within the appropriate boundaries, because you would never take something like that and get it wrong want.”
In addition to Nolan, producer Barbara Broccoli is also considering Danny Boyle (“Trainspotting”), Denis Villeneuve (“Dune”) and Paul Greengrass (“The Bourne Supremacy”) as alternatives. It is also unknown who will next take on the role of the iconic 007 after Daniel Craig ditched the tuxedo after 15 years with “No Time To Die”. Several actors are rumored to be in talks, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Regé-Jean Page and Damson Idris.
