Christopher Nolan doesn’t want to watch a Bond film

The speculation is over: After “Oppenheimer,” there will be no 007 film by Nolan.

Just a few months ago Christopher Nolan appeared as a guest in Happy Sad Confused Podcast expressed his interest in directing a James Bond film. At “World of Reel” he had already spoken about his ideas and possible implementation. Now the “Oppenheimer” director has announced that he doesn’t want anything to do with 007 after all.

Better not at all than wrong

After Nolan had already had several conversations with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, three films were already in the pipeline at one point and the rumors continued to grow, he seems to have decided against filming.

“No, unfortunately no – there is no truth to these rumors,” explains the director in an interview Associated Press. “It has to be the right moment in your creative life when you can express what you want to express and really delve into something, within the appropriate limits, because you would never want to take something like that and do it wrong,” Nolan continues.

The Brit seems to be happy with the latest solution and will then prefer to lean back in the cinema seats for more Bonds instead of being behind the camera for them. Nolan: “You don’t want to tackle a film where you’re not fully committed to what you have to offer creatively. As a screenwriter, in casting, in everything – it’s a complete package. You really have to be needed, you really have to be wanted. Otherwise, I’m very happy to be in the front row to see whatever they do.”

What comes from Christopher Nolan instead?

Now that Nolan is not going on the set of a Bond film, the question arose as to what he would do next instead. It probably won’t be something along the lines of “Oppenheimer” either, because he was proud and happy with how the film developed (especially at the box office), but explained that he would like to do something “less dark”: “It’s a great privilege to be able to talk about a film that you’ve made and now it’s coming out on 4K and Blu-ray and all the rest. It’s great to be able to sit here and talk about the success of the film. That is a great privilege. But the topic is very dark. It’s nihilistic, and yes, there’s a part of me that’s very interested in moving on and maybe doing something that’s not quite so dark.”

It remains to be seen whether there will be a romantic comedy by Christopher Nolan in cinemas next.
