The barriers at Breitscheidplatz are intended to protect visitors to the Christmas market. But above all, they could cause a lot of confusion. A comment from BZ editor Sabine Klier.
The Christmas decorations around Breitscheidplatz are red and white, at least according to the wishes of the Transport Senate! In order to protect visitors to the Christmas market, he has come up with a crazy barrier concept.
This is confusing for the driver because it is possible to drive through from one side, but turning to the multi-storey car parks and parking lots in Rankestrasse is not.
And the pedestrians have to find access to the cozy stalls, because there are road closures and new traffic signs as far as the eye can see.
The sidewalks of Berlin’s busiest shopping street will soon be quite crowded. A spacious pedestrian zone like the one in Friedrichstrasse was probably too tricky for the planners.
