Classics to original productions – Netflix has it all

The selection of Christmas movies on Netflix is growing every year. In addition to world-famous classics, there are now also many specially produced films and series that ensure a certain Christmas flair in every living room. From kitschy-romantic, to children’s films to spooky Christmas programs, everything is included.

Christmas for hopeless romantics

Everyone knows them and most women love the films – Sissy. Also this Christmas you can follow the story of Franz and “Lisel” with all ups and downs in three parts on Netflix. Pure romance with a touch of drama! Who doesn’t love this at Christmas time?

Christmas films with modern romance are also available on Netflix, including in-house productions “A Christmas Prince“. As the title says it all, it’s about a prince and an ambitious journalist, Amber, who is hired to write an article about the coronation of the coveted Prince Richard, but Amber isn’t a fan of the press. Of course, a good journalist doesn’t let that slow her down. So Amber, disguised as the prince’s sister’s tutor, starts her own research in the palace. The plan is simple: research, write and disappear. But it’s not quite that simple – especially not when a charming prince is involved. The film uses all the clichés and has a good portion of kitsch with it, but who wants to be confronted with reality at Christmas time?

Christmas movies for the family

Netflix also offers a wide range of Christmas films for families. There are classics like “The Grinch” but also newer productions like “The Christmas Chronicles” or “The Claus Family“. With a lot of humor and imagination, they create a Christmas atmosphere in every family.

The Christmas film is an absolute must during the Christmas season “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory“. Not only children dream of the chocolate lake and sugar grass. Whether young or old, as soon as the Oompa Loompas start dancing and singing, everyone’s spirits rise.

And in 2022, Netflix again produced new films especially for Christmas. In addition to heartwarming films like “The Noel Diary” and “Christmas With You‘ also features a new romantic comedy starring Lindsay Lohan: ‘Falling for Christmas“. The rich daughter of a hotel mogul loses her memory after a skiing accident. Not only does she forget her name, she also forgets that she is newly engaged – and thus meets the attractive Jake.

Even with Amazon Prime, nobody is alone at Christmas

Amazon Prime Video is now a good competitor for Netflix. In addition to classics like “Kevin Home Alone” and “Three hazelnuts for Cinderella” there are also many other productions that create a festive mood.

The film, for example, is almost a classic “Love doesn’t need a vacation” with a real star cast: Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Jack Black play the leading roles. The film about two women who swap homes over Christmas and fall in love is told lovingly and with a dash of humour. Another film that shouldn’t be missed at Christmas, of course, is “Indeed…love”. The episodic film from 2003 now has real cult status. When Premier Hugh Grant dances through his office, Bill Nighy Christmas (!) Is All Around sings and Rowan Atkinson drives Alan Rickman to despair while wrapping presents, it just makes Christmas really nice.

If you are in the mood for something new, you should also try the new original “Sachertorte“ heartfelt. In it, Karl falls head over heels in love with the Viennese Nini when he meets her during her stop in Berlin, which lasts only a few hours. Due to a mishap, however, he then loses her phone number and otherwise only knows that she goes to the Hotel Sacher in Vienna with her father for a piece of Sachertorte every year at 3 p.m. The (of course completely logical) reaction to this: Karl moves to Vienna and waits for Nini at the Hotel Sache every day at 3 p.m. If he doesn’t miss out on great love.

Disney + promises Christmas like in a fairy tale

Disney+ is much more than a platform for classic Disney films. In addition to all Marvel films, you can also see their own productions. At Christmas, however, Disney+ mainly offers family programming.

The films are world-famous and loved by young and old alike “Frozen I + II“ (Frozen). The unconditional love between the sisters Elsa and Anna and the little, talking snowman Olaf provide tissues and a catchy song let it go.

Those who prefer to stick with the classic Christmas films will find all three here “Santa Clause“-Movies, “Kevin home alone” or also “The Miracle of Manhattan“. The action takes place in New York at Christmas and revolves around the department store Santa Kris Kringle. The elderly gentleman with his white beard not only looks like Santa Claus, but also claims to be him. For every child who sees him, it makes total sense. But rational adults no longer believe in Santa Claus. But how can he prove that he is the real Santa? It’s about more than his mental health. He cares about the children of the whole world. What would Christmas be without the gift bringer? And he is particularly concerned about little Susan and her mother. They both could use a miracle!
