Christine Durinx new co-general director of VIB | Economy

Christine Durinx will become general director of the Flemish Institute for Biotechnology (VIB), alongside current co-director Jérôme Van Biervliet. This is reported by the VIB and the Flemish Minister of Economy and Innovation Hilde Crevits (CD&V).

Durinx takes over from Jo Bury, co-founder and general manager since VIB was founded more than 25 years ago. Until recently, she headed the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB).

The appointment of Durinx “strengthens VIB’s commitment to further develop the emerging scientific domains of computational biology, artificial intelligence and custom health,” it said in a press release.

“With Christine Durinx we not only bring a top woman from abroad back to Flanders, but we also bring her expertise in the use of data for faster breakthroughs in biotechnological research to VIB,” said Minister Crevits. “The use of data is becoming increasingly important. It is also an extra focus that we are placing in the new covenant between the Flemish government and VIB.”
