Verstappen is already committed until 2028 and on Tuesday Red Bull announced Pérez’s contract extension until 2024. ,,Since he joined Red Bull, he has Checo did a fantastic job,” says Horner. “He has proven time and again that he is not only a great team player, but now that he has become more comfortable, he has become a real driver to be reckoned with at the front of the grid. This year he has taken another step and the gap with world champion Max has closed considerably, as evidenced by his excellent pole position in Jeddah and his stunning victory in Monaco last weekend. For us it was a no-brainer to keep his speed, racing skill and experience. Working with Max, we believe we have a driver pair that will give us the biggest trophies in F1.”
Verstappen is the World Cup leader after seven races and has already won four races. Pérez is third, with fifteen points less than the Dutchman. He won his first Grand Prix of the season in Monaco on Sunday.
Pérez is of course pleased with his two-year contract extension. “This has been an incredible week for me. Winning the Monaco Grand Prix is a driver’s dream and to then announce that I will be staying with the team until 2024 makes me extremely happy. I am so proud to be a member of this team and feel right at home here now. We work very well together and my relationship with Max, on and off the track, certainly helps us move forward even more. We’ve built tremendous momentum as a team and this season shows it, I’m excited to see where that can take us all in the future.”
