A 31-year-old football player died in the earthquake in Turkey.
A former Ghana national team player who died in the earthquakes in Turkey Christian Atsu are buried in their homeland.
The body of Atsu, 31, was flown from Turkey to the player’s home country on Sunday. Soldiers carried Atsu’s coffin from the airport to the hearse. The Ghanaian government has promised Atsu a “dignity” funeral.
The body of Atsu, who represented Hatayspor in Turkey, was found in the ruins of his home on Saturday. He lived on the ninth floor of an apartment building. Atsu had arrived at his home only about an hour before the earthquake started.
Atsu was missing for almost two weeks before he was found last weekend. The massive natural disaster has claimed almost 50,000 lives in Turkey and Syria. The number of victims continues to rise day by day.
In his career, Atsu played 65 international matches for Ghana. The winger represented Everton and Newcastle in the English Premier League.
