Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu has been found dead in the ruins of his home, reports Reuters.

The information was confirmed to reporters in the Turkish province of Hatay by the player’s agent Murat Uzunmehmet.

The home of Atsu, 31, who represented Yeni Malatyaspor, collapsed in the city of Antalya following the tragic earthquakes in Turkey.

At first it was said that the former Chelsea player had been found, but last week it turned out that it was a case of identification error.

Atsu lived on the ninth floor of the building. He had arrived at his home just less than an hour before the earthquake struck.

The winger, who played his first season in Turkey, was still thinking of moving to France at the beginning of February, but the winning goal in extra time in the last match changed his mind.

Recruited by Chelsea in 2013, Atsu represented Everton (2014–15), Bournemouth (2015–16) and Newcastle (2016–2021) in England. The Ghana international also played in Portugal, Holland, Spain and Saudi Arabia.

It has been determined that more than 40,000 people have already died in the destruction that occurred in the region of Turkey and Syria.
