Chocolate seafood celebrates 65th anniversary on the coast

For 65 years, the iconic shells, shrimps and seahorses with hazelnut filling have been enjoyed by young and old. To celebrate the birthday of the chocolate brand, the coastline is cycled from De Panne to Knokke-Heist. At the time, it was chocolatier Guy Foubert who, together with his fiancee Liliane, made the famous seafood. “They came up with the idea of making a chocolate memento as a souvenir of their trip to the Belgian coast. 65 years ago, this was unique and quite an experience for many people,” says Liesbeth Coppens of Guylian Chocolate.

“Basics of the brand”

The couple had therefore neatly divided the tasks and thus arrived at a recipe for success. “Liliane designed eleven different shapes, in the shape of our seafood. As a chocolatier, Guy dedicated himself to designing a tasty hazelnut filling, and that is the basis of the brand to this day.”
